Also known as reduction mammaplasty, breast reduction surgery removes excess breast fat, glandular tissue and skin to achieve a breast size in proportion with your body and to alleviate the discomfort associated with overly large breasts. Often times your insurance company will cover this procedure when a patient meets the required criteria. Commonly, breast reduction results in a decrease in neck, shoulder and back pain as well as a new and better breast shape.
Whether done cosmetically or through insurance, the best candidates for breast reduction surgery are those who are experiencing the symptoms as previously described, healthy and a non smoker. This will be discussed in detail with your physician at your consultation to be sure you are choosing the best surgical option.
Breast reduction surgeries are typically done on an out patient basis at our fully accredited surgical center and generally take approximately three hours to perform. The incisions may vary based on your personal needs for shape and reduction of tissue. This will also be decided by your physician during your consultation. All of these incisions are typically hidden in any type of clothing. Most patients recover from this surgery in one to two weeks, allowing them to return to work or basic daily functions. Patients are restricted to no exercise or strenuous activities for six weeks.
