ABOUT BREAST IMPLANT REMOVAL
After receiving a breast augmentation to improve the size and shape of the breasts, some women later decide to have their implants removed. This desire can arise for a number of reasons. At Aesthetic Surgery Centre & MedSpa in Tacoma, WA, our team of skilled plastic surgeons consult with women who want to remove their breast implants. A breast lift may be necessary after breast removal, depending on the type of the implants used and how extensively your skin was stretched as a result of your augmentation. A breast lift can often help eliminate excess or sagging skin that remains after implant removal. If you are wishing to return to your original breast size, breast implant removal surgery with a breast lift can create beautiful results to restore the natural look and feel of your breasts.

Breast implant removal can be employed to correct an array of concerns you might have after a breast augmentation, like excess scar tissue (capsular contracture), implant malfunction, or dissatisfaction with the breast size. In some cases, you may just prefer your original breasts and decide to return them to their former appearance. No matter the reason, breast implant removal can function to counteract the results of breast augmentation. When combined with a breast lift, this procedure can recreate the natural look of your breasts. Prior to your procedure, you and your surgeon will discuss your desired look and how to achieve it.
For your breast implant removal operation, the implants will be carefully excised. Any scar tissue that was caused as a result of your original augmentation will also be removed if it is affecting the shape of the breasts or causing any pain. After the inserts are removed, your surgeon may perform a breast lift, fat transfer or both, depending on what was discussed during your consultation. You have several options for restoring volume after an implant removal to enhance the shape of your breasts.
WHAT TO EXPECT
The recovery time will vary for each patient, depending on the reconstruction needed following implant removal. After your surgery, a member of our team will give you clear post-procedure instructions to care for your incision sites. We may recommend additional treatments to help reduce scarring. For the first two or three weeks, patients will experience bruising and swelling and should limit strenuous exercise until instructed otherwise. However, you will be encouraged to get up and slowly move around because this can help with blood flow. Optimal results can typically be seen approximately 4 – 6 months after the procedure.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
How much does breast implant removal cost?
Your costs for breast implant removal will depend on your unique situation, like if you're having a breast revision or augmentation along with your removal. After meeting with one of our skilled plastic surgeons, we will work with you to create a treatment plan that addresses your needs. From there, we will be able to estimate your costs. Aesthetic Surgery Centre & MedSpa accepts many forms of payment. A member of our team can help you secure low-interest financing to make your treatment more affordable.
Should I get a fat transfer or breast lift?
At your one-on-one appointment, we will discuss your cosmetic goals to determine which surgical method would be best for your needs. After having breast implant removal, we usually suggest patients to receive a breast lift or fat transfer to achieve a firm, natural-looking silhouette. Although both provide stunning results, they are entirely different procedures. A breast lift serves to remove excess breast tissue while a fat transfer increases lost volume to your breasts. A member of our experienced staff can discuss your concerns and goals with you. From there, we will help you decide which procedure is ideal for your situation.
What are the risks?
When performed by a skilled, experienced plastic surgeon, like those on our team, the likelihood of complications arising as a result of the procedure are slim. With any surgery, however, the possibility of risks occurring is always there (albeit rare). The most common negative effects associated with breast implant removal are the development of scar tissue, sagging, and numbness in the affected area.
Can I increase/decrease the size of my implants?
If you become unhappy with the current size of your breasts, you may choose to go up or down a size later on to suit your wants. Before planning any surgery, we will perform a thorough evaluation of your breasts and assess your concerns and goals. From there, your implant exchange process can begin.
