ABOUT BREAST AUGMENTATION
Breast augmentation is a procedure that enlarges the breasts to give them a fuller appearance. Breast enhancements are known to be one of the most sought-after cosmetic surgeries due to the stunning effects it can have on a woman's body and their overall confidence. Using breast implants or fat grafting, this aesthetic procedure improves breast size and shape, and it is known to produce desirable and balanced outcomes for many. Our experienced team of plastic surgeons is highly trained in executing this procedure. At our Tacoma, WA office, we perform countless breast augmentations for women throughout the year. During your consultation at Aesthetic Surgery Centre & MedSpa, we will address your concerns and desires and discuss your many surgical options. Once your wants have been determined, we will craft your unique treatment plan to suit your situation.
Your age is not a major consideration for breast augmentation, but you will need to be carefully assessed to determine the most appropriate technique to achieve your ideal enhancement. During your one-on-one consultation, the correct implant will be chosen based on your body frame and cosmetic goals. Breast implants come in varying sizes, profiles, shapes, and textures. All of these factors are taken into consideration to achieve your desired aesthetic goal. Today, the most commonly chosen breast implants are saline or silicone, both being widely chosen and approved to use per the FDA (Food and Drug Administration). It is important to mention that patients considering saline breast implants must be at least 18 years of age while patients must be at least 22 years of age in order to receive surgery with silicone. Other possible augmentation options include gummy bear implants or an autologous fat transfer for those seeking a more natural method. Aside from the type of augmentation chosen, there are other notable factors to consider.
Implant size is chosen based on the number of CCs of silicone or saline used. To decide on the correct amount, we will determine how much natural tissue exists, as well as the size you wish to attain. During surgery, it is common for your surgeon to temporarily switch out multiple implants to get a better idea for an ideal fit.
Breast implants are produced in either a round or teardrop shape. Both shapes are commonly used; however, the majority of our patients go with a round shape. It often appears more natural and adds a fullness to the top portion of the breast that so many patients desire.
Breast implant profile is, essentially, the projection of the breasts. Meaning, this is what you see from the side view. The most common projections include a profile that ranges from low to extra high.
Making Your Choices
These options may seem overwhelming, but determining the right implant is easy once the objectives are discussed during the consultation. These considerations, paired with the experience of your surgeon, will ensure that the right outcome is achieved.
Breast Augmentation Reviews
"Dr.Ehret is amazing! In 2012 I had my first breast augmentation and was botched to say the least, and then in the summer of 2015, my left breast implant ruptured. Being the beginning of summer I wanted it taken care of since I wanted to wear a swimsuit. I went back to my original doctor and was shocked about his lack of professionalism regarding my situation. With that said, and the fact I felt botched I was not gonna let him do this to me again. I met with Dr.Ehret and felt good vibes the moment I stepped in. Our first consolation was about 45- 1 hour and he listened to all my current complaints. Gave me amazing advice and made me feel confident he could fix me. And that he did. Replaced my broken saline implants with the "gummy bear" (which I recommend) scar revision and a built in bra of sorts. To say I am happy doesn't even begin to describe how I feel!!!! I don't think he or anyone could have done a better job fixing me. His staff is also amazing. Wouldn't have chosen anyone else to take care of me."- O.B. / Yelp / Sep 22, 2015
"The Eyes Have it! – Well where should I begin....I came to the Aesthetic Surgery Centre after my mother had a major reconstruction procedure with Dr. Ehret. This was one of the most friendly, professional and courteous offices we had been to in a long time. So when I was considering surgery I did not hesitate to call upon their office again. I found that I was able to talk to a knowledgeable staff, ones that really took the time to listen to what my desires were and to make my vision become a reality. I become a patient of Dr Troy Woodman, and was comfortable with him from the first visit to the last follow up appointment. Dr Woodman preformed a upper lid blepharoplasty, and also did some Botox injections......I look 10 years younger! I think that what made this a great experience was that the doctors and staff from both the clinic to the surgery center all seemed to be specially trained to give high quality patient service and care. I never felt alone or concerned, as the doctor and staff called me the evening after surgery and made sure I was comfortable and without questions. I would highly recommend this office and am planning on having Dr Ehret remove my 15 year old breast implants and do a lift and replace. Why would I consider anything but the best and that is exactly what this office is.....The Best!"- A. / Citysearch / Dec 01, 2008

"Breast Augmentation at 65: A New Beginning. Tacoma, WA - I made a lot of phone calls, read many articles on augmentation and spoke to a lot of plastic surgeon's assistants. From the moment we met I knew Dr. Frederick W. Ehret was the surgeon I wanted to perform my breast augmentation. He was knowledgable, friendly, warm and genuine. My husband was equally impressed. Dr. Ehret listened to my thoughts and together we decided on the best implant for my particular needs and body type. Dr. Ehret did his plastics residency at Harvard. I knew I was in good hands. I completely trust him and had no anxiety before surgery. I am ecstatic with the results and would not hesitate to highly recommend Dr. Ehret."- M.D. / RealSelf / Jun 16, 2016
The choice to undergo cosmetic breast surgery is personal. If you are considering this surgery, it is important that you do it for yourself. You should be healthy and at a normal weight with breasts that are fully formed. You should also be the right age to receive implants (18 years old for saline and 22 years old for silicone). If you are dissatisfied with the size of your breasts because they look small or asymmetrical, you could benefit from this life-altering surgery. In addition, if your breasts have been affected by age, pregnancy, or weight loss, this procedure can bring them back to life with increased volume. Breast augmentation can also be a welcomed solution if you weight train and have limited native breast tissue.
Incision type and implant placement are considerations that will need to be made prior to surgery. During the procedure, an incision is created, and the chosen implant will be slipped into its position. There are a couple of methods that may be applied for implant placement. These include either submuscular placement (under the pec muscle) or submammary/subglandular placement (over the pec muscle). The insert's placement is based on numerous factors, including the size of implant, insert type, and the expert opinion of your surgeon. Regardless of the incision type employed, scarring is generally unnoticeable. Implant placement is determined based on your body type, implant size, and lifestyle.
WHAT TO EXPECT
Cosmetic breast surgery is performed as an outpatient surgery using general anesthesia. After completing the incision, the silicone or saline implant will be placed through the opening and deposited into a surgically created pocket. From there, it will be fitted into its proper position. Following the placement of the implant, the incision is closed with sutures or surgical adhesives. All patients will be taken into a recovery area and carefully monitored before being released. You will be sent home wearing a medical sports bra to assist with swelling. Within a few days, the swelling will start to dissipate, and the breasts will begin to feel normal as they adjust to their new positions. Patients can resume normal activities within several days; however, exercise should be avoided for roughly 6 – 8 weeks. Breast implant surgery produces beautiful outcomes that look and feel natural. In most cases, this treatment can be life changing for many individuals and allows them the chance to feel more confident.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
How much does breast augmentation cost?
Your cost for breast augmentation will vary based on your choices and if you are having any other surgeries performed at the same time. When your treatment plan is developed during your consultation, we can discuss your estimated costs and financing options. To ensure that your results match your goals and last a long time, it's important to focus on receiving top-quality care from a surgeon you trust.
Do I need a breast lift or augmentation?
Your plan may include breast augmentation, a lift, or both. A breast lift removes excess skin and improves the breasts while augmentation addresses the size and shape of the breasts. During your consultation, we will listen to your needs and goals before explaining your treatment options. A combination augmentation and lift are often a part of a mommy makeover to rejuvenate the breasts after pregnancy and breastfeeding.
Can I breastfeed with implants?
If you want to breastfeed after undergoing a breast augmentation, be sure to let us know during your consultation. It is usually possible to breastfeed after implants as long as the appropriate surgical technique and implant placement are used. Pregnancy and breastfeeding can alter your results so it is best to wait until after you are done having children to receive breast enhancements.
Can I have my implants removed?
You may decide that you want to replace or remove your implants. If this happens, we can perform breast revision surgery. During the revision surgery, your current implants can either be replaced with new implants or removed. If you choose to have your implants removed, you may need to have excess skin removed since larger implants can stretch your skin. If you have any questions or concerns after your augmentation, schedule an appointment at Aesthetic Surgery Centre & MedSpa so we can discuss your options.
Do implants cause breast cancer?
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is investigating a link between implants and anaplastic large cell lymphoma (ALCL). This is not breast cancer but a cancer of the immune cells. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), implant-related ALCL is very rare, and when caught early, it is easy to treat. We encourage all of our patients with implants to receive regular screenings for breast cancer. You should contact Aesthetic Surgery Centre & MedSpa if you notice any concerns, such as swelling or other visible changes.
