Male Breast Reduction
Male Breast Reduction is done in men for a condition called Gynecomastia, which is a swelling of the breast tissue for men or boys caused by an imbalance of estrogen and testosterone. In some instances, Gynecomastia may resolve on its own or can be treated with medication. However, in more severe cases, the breast tissue and surrounding skin can be removed through male breast reduction surgery.
You may be a good candidate for male breast reduction surgery, if you are:
- Emotionally Stable
- Within your ideal body weight
- Having gynecomastia in one or both breasts
- Over 18 years of age
- Having good skin elasticity
Before going through male breast reduction surgery, you will discuss your case with one of our surgeons and provide a complete medical history. This will allow our surgeons to check for a range of conditions that may have caused gynecomastia.
These may include impaired liver function and the use of anabolic steroids of medications containing estrogen. Smoking marijuana and drinking alcohol excessively may also result in gynecomastia. It is important to address these conditions prior to surgery, as otherwise, these medical causes could result in the development of additional breast tissue following male reduction surgery.
