Question: Would a mini tummy tuck work to get rid of my disproportionate loose skin and tighten my abdomen?
Answer: Thanks for your question. A mini tummy tuck will tighten the skin below your belly button, but will not significantly improve loose skin above the belly button. A mini tummy tuck also does not correct Diastasis recti, the separation of the muscle that occurs frequently with pregnancy. In order to improve loose skin above the belly button and Diastasis recti, requires a full tummy tuck. While the full tummy tuck scar is usually a little longer than a mini tummy tuck scar, it still can be a very good scar after completely healing and can be hidden in a small bikini bottom. The majority of the time, the compromise between the shorter scar of a mini tuck and the better contour of a full tummy tuck favors the full tummy tuck for most patients.
Another important evaluation is assessing the skin above your belly button when you’re sitting down. If it’s quite loose and you don’t like that, you probably need a full tummy tuck.
